Surface Preparation

Non-woven abrasives are manufactured from a web of randomly laid, three-dimensional fibres which are bonded together by resins, making a structured fabric that is not knitted or woven together. These fibres are impregnated with abrasive grains providing a conformable, cushioned abrasive which is capable of delivering burr free, fine finishes without damaging the base material. Non-woven abrasives are waterproof, clog free, long lasting and non-conductive. The open construction of the fibres reduces heat during the finishing process which helps to avoid discolouration of the workpiece. Non-woven abrasives are available in sheets and rolls for use by hand or manufactured specifically for use with grinders and sanders in the form of flap wheels, compacted blending discs, velcro discs and grinding wheels.
