Mafell have upgraded the 162mm Saw Blade for the MT55 Plunge Saws

May 22, 2026

Mafell has upgraded its 162mm saw blade to suit the Mafell MT55 CC corded and MT55 18M cordless plunge saws. The 092604 is the direct replacement and technical evolution of the older 092584 blade. They look similar on paper, but the tooth design and cutting behaviour are quite different.

Below is a clear, practical breakdown.

Core differences at a glance:

Features

Mafell 092584 (older)

Mafell 092604 (newer)

Tooth count  48T 49T
Tooth layout Regular (even spacing) Group‑toothed (irregular spacing)
Tooth grind ATB (alternate top bevel) WZ/FZ (alternate + flat)
Cutting character Smooth but higher resistance Smoother, quieter, lower resistance
Power demand Higher Reduced (notably on cordless MT55)
Vibration/noise Normal Reduced vibration & noise
Status Discontinued Current production

What changed, and why does it matter?

1. Group‑toothed design – the biggest change

The 092604 introduces Mafell’s GT - or group‑toothed pitch, where teeth are arranged in repeating groups with slight spacing differences.

This gives:

  • Lower cutting forces
  • Less motor load
  • Smoother feed with less buzz
  • Better chip evacuation
  • Reduced resonance on track saw rails

This is especially noticeable on the cordless MT55 18M, in sheet materials and on longer rail cuts.

2. One extra tooth - plus revised geometry

While 48T vs 49T sounds trivial, the new WZ/FZ grind is significant:

  • Flat teeth help control tear‑out
  • Alternates maintain clean shear cuts
  • Better cross‑grain edge quality than the original blade

In practice, the new 092604 saw blade leaves a cleaner edge with less effort, not just a finer cut.

3. Better battery life

Mafell explicitly redesigned their 162mm sawblade for:

  • Reduced cutting resistance
  • Improved energy efficiency
  • Longer run‑time on MT55 18M
  • Less thermal buildup on long cuts

This is not marketing fluff; it’s a real-world improvement.

What has stayed the same?

Both the original and new saw blades share:

  • 162 mm diameter
  • 20 mm bore
  • 1.2 mm plate / 1.8 mm kerf
  • Ability to achieve true 50.8 mm (2") cutting depth on rail
  • Compatibility with MT55 CC corded and MT55 18M BL cordless plunge saws
  • Intended use: fine cuts in solid wood, veneered panels and sheet materials

There is no scenario where the 092584 outperforms the 092604 - the newer blade is a straight upgrade and compatible with exactly the same Mafell plunge saws.
