Made from high speed steel these hand taps are the general purpose option for thread cutting in most materials including steel, some stainless steels, cast irons and non-ferrous materials These are straight flute general purpose tools which can be used for both machine or hand tapping, but are best on materials that produce chips, or where the swarf breaks readily.
Bottom / Plug taps have a lead of 1-2 threads, this is just enough chamfer for finishing in the bottom of a hole as the name implies, it is designed specifically to thread blind holes.
These taps can also be used as a machine tap for tapping in free cutting steel up to 800N/mm2.
