Made from high speed steel these hand taps are the general purpose option for thread cutting in most materials including steel, some stainless steels, cast irons and non-ferrous materials These are straight flute general purpose tools which can be used for both machine or hand tapping, but are best on materials that produce chips, or where the swarf breaks readily.
Second taps have a lead of 3-5 threads at 8 degrees per side, they are the most popular and can be used for through holes or blind holes where the thread is not required right at the bottom of the hole.
These taps can also be used as a machine tap for tapping in free cutting steel up to 800N/mm2.
