The range of temperatures that can be shown by the use of temperature indicating crayons is very large, from 38°C (100°F) to approximately 1370°C (2500°F), a different crayon for each temperature is required. They are good for a quick evaluation of temperature, and are used to check preheat, post heat and other heat treatments. Tempilstik are engineered precisely for the most critical jobs and meet the preheat temperature requirements of AWS D1.1 and other welding specifications.
Simply stroke the workpiece during heating, and the Tempilstik will make a distinct mark by melting at the point of contact once the surface reaches the indicator's rated temperature.
