Collets & Sleeves

Router collets and sleeves are grooved, cone shaped or cylindrical inserts which clamp around the shank of a router cutter when tightened by the collet nut, securely holding the cutter in place. As the collet or sleeve is in direct contact with the shank of the cutter, wear can take place resulting in excessive vibration when the machine is in use; a worn collet is often easily identified by discolouration or corrosion on the shank of the cutter which will be visible when it has been removed from the machine. Sleeves tend to be used when a smaller diameter shank cutter is used in a larger diameter collet and needs packing out. Protrade stock a range of collets from Lamello, Festool and Makita.
