Sifalumin No 27 is suitable for welding magnesium aluminium alloys such as 5251 (N4), 5154 (N5), 5454 (N51) and also heat treatable alloys 6063 (H9), 6061 (H20) and 6082 (H30).
Sifalumin No 27 offers a very good color match after anodizing with 5xxx/6xxx base materials over 4043, which turns jet black when anodized.
Its one limitation is that 5356 is not suitable for service temperatures exceeding 150 degrees fahrenheit (65 degrees Celsius), the formation of Al2Mg at elevated temperatures at the grain boundaries
makes the alloys prone to stress corrosion.
Predominately used during the TIG welding process, AC welding current using shielding gases such as argon at 5-10 l/min, helium at 8-16 l/min or a argon/helium at 5-10 l/min
