CK 2% Lanthanated Tungsten Electrodes (Blue) are a versatile, non-radioactive electrode suitable for both AC and DC TIG welding applications. Containing 1.8-2.2% lanthanum oxide they provide excellent arc starting, arc stability, low erosion rates, and long service life. They perform exceptionally well when welding steel, stainless steel, aluminium, magnesium, titanium, nickel, and copper alloys, making them an ideal general-purpose alternative to thoriated tungsten, particularly on modern inverter welding machines.
Compared with 2% thoriated tungsten, the CK 2% Lanthanated tungsten offers similar arc characteristics while being non-radioactive. It delivers excellent arc starting and stability, and maintains a sharp point for longer periods, It performs extremely well at both low and high amperages and can be used effectively on both AC and DC applications. This versatility has made 2% Lanthanated tungsten's one of the most popular all-purpose electrodes.
Product Features:
Non-radioactive alternative to thoriated tungsten.
Excellent arc starting and re-starting characteristics.
Suitable for both AC and DC welding.
Low erosion rate and long electrode life.
Works well on modern inverter TIG welders.
Ideal as a general-purpose electrode for multiple materials.
Classification: EWLa-2 / WL20
Colour Code: Blue
Composition: 1.8-2.2% Lanthanum Oxide (La2O3)
Type: Non-radioactive TIG Welding electrode
Suitable for Welding:
Carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium, magnesium, titanium, nickel alloys and copper alloys.
Grinding Recommendations:
A taper point length of approximately 2 to 3 times the electrode diameter is suitable for most applications.
A longer taper provides a narrower, more focused arc.
A shorter taper provides a wider arc and greater current-carrying capacity.
DC TIG Welding (Steel, Stainless, Titanium)
- Sharp tapered point with a small flat on the tip.
- Provides precise arc control and deeper penetration.
AC TIG Welding (Aluminium)
Modern inverter machines: use the same pointed or truncated-point geometry.
Traditional transformer machines: a small balled tip may be used, although WL20 generally performs very well when kept pointed.
