SWP Super 6, 2% Thoriated Tungsten Electrodes (Red) are TIG welding electrode containing 1.7-2.2% thorium oxide. Designed primarily for DC welding applications, they offer excellent arc starting, superior arc stability, high current-carrying capacity, and extended electrode life. Their ability to maintain a sharp point produces a focused, controllable arc, making them ideal for welding carbon steel, stainless steel, titanium, nickel, and copper alloys. These electrodes are primarily intended for DC welding and are less commonly used for modern AC aluminium welding, where lanthanated electrodes are more often preferred.
Because they contain thorium oxide, thoriated electrodes are radioactive. While the risk during normal welding is low, care should be taken when grinding:
