Super 6 0.8% Zirconiated White Tip Tungsten Electrodes are a non-radioactive TIG electrodes specifically developed for AC welding of aluminium and magnesium alloys. They contain 0.7-0.9% zirconium oxide, which enhances arc stability, increases current-carrying capacity, and improves resistance to contamination compared with pure tungsten electrodes. They are best suited to AC TIG welding applications where a stable, rounded tip profile is required. They offer excellent arc stability, high current-carrying capacity, and superior resistance to contamination, pitting, and erosion, making them an ideal choice for welding aluminium and magnesium alloys.
During AC welding of aluminium, the tungsten electrode is repeatedly heated and cooled as the current alternates. Zirconiated tungsten develops a stable, smooth, rounded tip that is far less prone to particle shedding, tip splitting, or deformation under high AC loads. This helps reduce the risk of tungsten inclusions in the weld pool and contributes to more consistent arc performance. In addition, zirconiated tungsten offers greater resistance to pitting and erosion than pure tungsten under similar welding conditions.
