Paint Rollers
One of the fastest methods of applying paint and water-based adhesives to large, flat areas is to use a paint roller. Paint rollers comprise a roller sleeve and a frame which is usually of cranked wire construction with a handle that may feature a hollow or threaded end to accept extension poles. Roller sleeves are typically manufactured from natural or man-made fibres and have different pile lengths depending on the coating they are to apply and what texture it will be applied to. Foam roller sleeves are ideal for emulsion paint on perfectly flat surfaces, lambswool also works well with emulsion paint as it holds more paint than synthetic versions and does not splash as much. Mohair woven sleeves tend to work well with most paint types including gloss paints. Short piles work best with very flat surfaces such as a door or freshly plastered wall, medium pile roller sleeves hold more paint than short piles and are ideal for walls and ceilings where the surface is flat but not perfect, long piles are best for highly textured surfaces such as artex ceilings. Radiator paint rollers have an extended wire roller frame for reaching behind radiators with a reduced width sleeve making them an ideal choice for and hard to reach areas or narrow panels. Protrade stocks a range of paint rollers to suit many decorating tasks.
