Blades for Metal
Choosing the correct metal cutting recip blade for your reciprocating saw will reduce cutting time and improve blade life. Protrade stock a range of recipro sawblades for metal with thicknesses ranging from 1mm – 13mm.
Blade choice is partly determined by the type of metal being cut; soft non-ferrous metals such as aluminium are prone to clogging blades because heat created during the cutting process causes metal chips to stick to the teeth of the sawblade, choosing a recipro blade with slightly coarser teeth can help to reduce tip contamination and extend blade life. Mild steel is relatively easy to cut with a reciprocating saw and blade selection is typically decided on the thickness of the steel, thin metal requires more teeth and thick metal needs fewer teeth. Difficult to cut materials such as stainless steel will, as a minimum, require a Bi-Metal blade combining a high speed steel (HSS) cutting edge with a high carbon steel (HCS) body. Bi-Metal blades have proven that despite their initial higher purchase price they work out more economical in the long run. Taking performance and value one step further, inventors of the reciprocating saw Milwaukee, are able to offer the ultimate blade for stainless steel by replacing HSS teeth with tungsten carbide. Using this abrasion and heat resistant tooth material with a unique tooth geometry allows these latest blades to cut quickly, resist tooth strippage and offer incredible service life. Other metals such as boron steel which have proved virtually impossible to cut with a recipro saw can now be tackled with TCT metal cutting reciprocating blades. Working with manufacturers such as Lenox and Milwaukee, cutting metal using a reciprocating saw doesn’t have to consume time, money and energy when you choose Protrade for your metal cutting recipro blades.
