Paslode Nail & Fuel Packs
Paslode has been driving change in timber construction since 1935. Over this time the brand has built an enviable reputation for delivering best-in-class nailing systems, often revolutionising construction methods, reducing labour time whilst increasing product reliability and on-site safety. The Paslode system is made up of three major components – the tool, nail and the gas. Paslode manufacture all components to the highest quality, maintaining and guaranteeing performance only when all parts are used together. By stipulating the finest raw materials for the nails and fuel, the system meets the strictest standards for safety, reliability and performance. European Safety Standard EN792-13 states for safe operation of Paslode tools, only those fuel cells and consumables identified in the operating manual should be used.
All Paslode nails are hexavalent chromium, cadmium and lead free. Paslode first fix nails are CE marked and meet or exceed corrosion requirements stated in Eurocode 5 (EC5), thus suitable for all applications in service class 1, 2 and 3. Bright and Electro-Galv (less than 12µm coating) nails are service class 1 and should be used for internal applications only. Electro-Galv (12µm coating or more) and Galv-Plus nails are service class 2 and can be used internally and also externally if protected or covered. Hot dipped galvanised and stainless steel nails are service class 3 and can be used internally and also externally, even when exposed to weather. The unique Paslode formulation of the gas, which includes lubricants and cleaning agents, helps to prevent misfires and nail jams, prolonging the life of the tool and extending maintenance cleaning periods and strip downs.
The 1st fix nails are split into two categories: nail and fuel packs for the IM350 tool and nail and fuel packs for the IM360 tool. The difference between the IM350 and IM360 is mainly down to the gas canisters or fuel cells. Both nailing machines take angled 34° strip nails from 50mm to 90mm in length, but the IM350 feature a D-head or clipped head, whereas the IM360 nails are fully round. Although the full round head nails are spaced slightly further apart in the collation to accommodate the full head, which reduces the magazine capacity from 55 to 47 nails, the sight of a unique full round head when installed offers the assurance that a Eurocode 5 compliant nail has been used. In terms of compatibility, the nails in each pack can be used in all Paslode 1st fix nailers (IM350, IM350+, IM360Ci and IM90i tools), plus most other alternative brands of gas and cordless first fix nailers. Paslode also developed and patented the NailScrew for their IM360Ci machine, which is a screw with a countersunk head with Torx drive that is fired-in like a nail but can also be removed and reinstalled like a traditional woodscrew.
The fuel cells for the 1st fix nailers are completely different, hence the importance of selecting the correct type. The original IM350 type fuel cells are compatible with both the IM350 and IM350+ along with the alternative brands of first fix gas nailing machines, but they cannot be used in the IM360Ci or its predecessor – the IM90i. These two machines have a unique fuel cell called SERIES-i which features an intelligent fuel injection system that delivers the exact dosage of fuel required, ensuring maximum performance levels and minimising excess gas wastage. Also used in the PPN35Ci Positive Placement Nailer, the SERIES-i fuel cells can work down to temperatures of -15°C, so no more warming canisters in your pocket on cold mornings! On the subject of the unique PPN35Ci machine; these nails also comply to Eurocode 5 and are tested according to ETA-09/0273. The 35mm twist nails for nailing connectors and hangers, also come with the CE marking – a requirement for many construction applications.
The 2nd fix nails are also split into two categories: straight and angled. Opposite to the first fix nail and fuel packs, the difference between the two types for second fix is purely down to the nails – the fuel cells are identical. The nails for the straight nailing machines, which include the IM65 and the older model IM250, are collated directly in line at 0°. The angled nails are collated at 20° for the IM65A and the older model IM250A. Selecting the correct type of nail is critical as the different nails will only suit the appropriate nailing machines, corresponding to the angle of the nailers magazine.
