Combi Drills
Protrade offer top leading brands such as Milwaukee, Metabo, Makita, Mafell, Festool and Panasonic. The term Combi drill is as you would expect, an abbreviation of Combination drill. The combination in question is the machines plain rotary action allowing it to drill wood, metals and plastics as well as has having a hammer mechanism which enables it to drill masonry.
As Combi Drills are such a versatile tool they often form the basis of most cordless kits on the market or are at least, the starting point for which tradespeople start to build their cordless fleet of tools from.
Selecting the correct combi drill for your application is an important choice to make; there are options such as brushless motors, electronic torque control versus mechanical, quick release chucks that permit angle and offset attachments to be fitted and hence extend the possible applications of the tool along with the more obvious factors such as size and weight.
Protrade also suggests that operators look further than the initial purchase of their Combi Drill. Although this first machine may seem appealing it’s beneficial if it works on a platform that has many other tools in the range, utilising the same battery. With voltages of 12v, 14.4v and 18v, run time and power output can change dramatically, so always pick a Combi Drill based on the application, not the voltage or battery capacity.
The hammer mechanism, created by serrated plates riding over one another or a series of bearings rolling in and out of half spherical recesses creating thousands of impacts per minute, isn’t to be confused with an SDS type action which relies on an anvil striking the end of the drill bit. More recently some Combi Drills have also been equipped with a torque setting feature which allows depth-sensitive screw driving and the limitation of power when screw driving into delicate materials.
Protrade have been advising customers on power tools since 1973 so if you are unsure of what tool you require just contact us. Order your Combi Drill before 5pm and it will be despatched that day ready for you to use the next working day.
